Ron Israel is a New Jersey legal malpractice defense attorney, attorney ethics advisor, professional liability defense lawyer, and complex commercial litigator with 30 years of experience. He serves as General Counsel to CSG Law and leads the firm’s Legal & Professional Malpractice Defense Team.

Ron represents attorneys, law firms, professional liability insurers, businesses, executives, fiduciaries, public entities, and individuals in high-stakes litigation and risk-sensitive matters. His practice includes legal malpractice defense, attorney ethics counseling, professional responsibility issues, commercial disputes, fiduciary duty claims, fraud allegations, intellectual property litigation, partnership disputes, shareholder disputes, estate litigation, restrictive covenant matters, and law firm risk management.

Legal Malpractice Defense, Attorney Ethics, and Law Firm Risk Management

Ron leads the firm’s Legal & Professional Malpractice Defense Team, which defends national, regional, New York and New Jersey-based attorneys, law firms, their insurers, and other professionals in matters involving legal malpractice, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, aiding and abetting, and other tort-based professional liability claims. He represents clients before federal and state courts, as well as disciplinary review boards.

His work for more than a decade as CSG Law’s General Counsel gives him direct insight into the issues lawyers and law firms face when managing risk, conflicts, client relationships, engagement terms, fee disputes, compliance obligations, and professional responsibility concerns. Ron applies that perspective when advising law firms and defending professional liability matters.

Ron also counsels companies on ethics and compliance programs, helping clients identify risk, manage disputes, and pursue practical solutions before litigation becomes the only option.

Complex Commercial Litigation Experience

Ron has litigated a wide range of complex commercial disputes in federal and state courts. His experience includes partnership disputes, minority oppression claims, shareholder derivative actions, professional malpractice matters, trademark and copyright infringement claims, restrictive covenant disputes, raiding cases, estate litigation, unfair competition claims, securities-related disputes, and commercial business litigation.

He has represented clients ranging from multinational corporations and billion-dollar business interests to family members involved in emotionally charged estate disputes. His approach is focused on strong advocacy, cost-effective strategy, and business-driven resolution.

Ron has also represented the State of New Jersey, three governors, members of the New Jersey Legislature, municipalities, local boards, and public officials in significant litigation matters. He has litigated constitutional issues in both federal and state courts, including successfully arguing the constitutionality of New Jersey’s Municipal Stabilization and Recovery Act.

Intellectual Property, Entertainment, and Counterfeit Goods Litigation

Ron’s litigation experience includes trademark and copyright infringement matters, bootleg and counterfeit goods cases, entertainment-related disputes, and right of publicity claims. He has represented well-known artists, entertainers, music groups, merchandising companies, and other clients in intellectual property and entertainment-related matters.

He has also supervised seizures of infringing merchandise and obtained ex parte nationwide injunctions and seizure orders in counterfeit merchandise cases.

Appellate and Precedent-Setting Work

In 2010, Ron persuaded the Third Circuit Court of Appeals to depart from 15 years of D.C. Circuit precedent regarding the scope of immunity for international organizations engaged in commercial transactions. The decision in OSS Nokalva, Inc. v. European Space Agency, 617 F.3d 756, created new international law in the Third Circuit. In 2019, the U.S. Supreme Court adopted that legal framework and made it applicable nationwide.
