Practice Areas
David J. Mairo is a member of the firm’s Environmental Group. His practice focuses on environmental law, Brownfields redevelopment, site remediation and regulatory compliance.
Utilizing a unique background that combines his technical and legal experience, David counsels clients on issues of compliance, applicability and adequacy of remediation concerning the Site Remediation Reform Act and Industrial Site Recovery Act, as well as a variety of other environmental regulatory and enforcement matters, including negotiations with the NJDEP, permitting, oversight of investigations and cleanups pursuant to the NJDEP Technical Requirements for Site Remediation. He advises clients on Natural Resource Damage assessments and the implications of environmental due diligence associated with the purchase and sale of real estate.
David assists clients through the acquisition and redevelopment of brownfield properties. David understands how remediation of the property can be best integrated into its overall redevelopment to realize savings of both time and money. David is familiar with the various insurance products available to either enable a deal to close or to control environmental costs. Moreover, based on his former career as an environmental consultant, David is able to ensure that the scope of the remediation is appropriate for the redevelopment’s intended use.
David has litigated a wide variety of environmental matters involving numerous state laws such as the New Jersey Spill Compensation and Control Act, Water Pollution Control Act, Environmental Rights Act, Solid Waste Management Act, Underground Storage Tank Act and Hazardous Discharge Site Remediation Act. He represents clients identified as Potentially Responsible Parties in Federal CERCLA cost recovery and contribution actions.
Prior to joining the firm, David was partner at Sedita, Campisano & Campisano LLC, where he practiced for over 3 years. He was also a partner at McManimon & Scotland LLC for over 5 years and began his legal career at Connell Foley LLP in 1999. As noted above, David started his career at Dan Raviv Associates Inc. (presently TRC Environmental Corp.), where he gained seven years of environmental consulting experience.
David earned his J.D. degree from Rutgers Law School. He received a M.S. degree, in Environmental Science, from New Jersey Institute of Technology and B.A. degree, in Biology, from Dickinson College.
