CSG Law Names New Leadership of Fidelity and Surety Group

Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi PC (“CSG Law”) is pleased to announce that Adam Friedman and Jonathan Bondy have each been named Chair of the firm’s Fidelity and Surety Group and Brian Kantar will serve as the Practice Group Leader. Armen Shahinian previously served as the group’s Chair.

“I am proud of the growth and development of the firm’s Fidelity & Surety Group over the past 45+ years I have been with the firm,” said Armen Shahinian. “Adam and Jon have been working closely with me for more than 25 years as our group has continued to grow in national prominence. We are now one of the largest such groups in the country. I think the time has come to recognize Adam and Jon’s contributions to that development and to turn over the reins of leadership of this department to their capable hands while I am still actively practicing.”

He continued: “In addition, Brian Kantar’s contributions to our department should not be understated. Brian has been a huge part of our ability to grow as he has taken a leading role in a variety of major matters and has produced terrific results.”

Both Adam and Jon have many years of experience in the fields of fidelity and related insurance, surety, construction, and other complex commercial litigation.

Adam advises and represents fidelity insurers on all aspects of matters relating to financial institution bonds, commercial crime policies and other types of fidelity insurance involving both standard and proprietary forms. He counsels and represents sureties on all aspects of performance and payment bond claims, subdivision bond claims and claims against other types of bonds, including matters in litigation, arbitration, mediation, and bankruptcy. He also advises and represents contractors in a variety of construction-related matters on both public and private projects throughout New York and New Jersey.

“During my 30 years with CSG Law, Armen Shahinian has not only been one of the deans of surety law but has been the best boss and colleague for which one can ask,” Adam Friedman said. “I am both honored and humbled not only to have the opportunity to follow in his footsteps at CSG Law, but to be able to do so with Jon Bondy, who is one of my oldest and dearest friends.”

Jon’s practice is concentrated in the field of commercial litigation, with a focus on surety and construction issues in New York and New Jersey. Jon represents and advises sureties with respect to performance and payment bond claims, affirmative surety claims, loss recovery, bankruptcy issues and contractor workouts. In addition to his surety practice, he represents developers, contractors and building material suppliers in litigation matters, such as claims for breach of contract, delay claims and payment claims.

“I am grateful and honored to have the opportunity to, with Adam, lead the Fidelity & Surety Group,” Jon Bondy said. “The confidence shown in us by Armen and the Firm’s leadership is much appreciated, and I look forward to helping the Group grow while continuing to provide our clients with the quality legal service that they have come to expect from CSG Law.”

Brian Kantar has assumed the role of the new Practice Group Leader from Adam and Jon. Brian focuses his practice on commercial litigation, as well as fidelity and surety, construction, and bankruptcy matters. Brian regularly represents surety companies, contractors, and developers in a wide variety of contract disputes, performance and payment bond claims, affirmative claims, loss recovery, bankruptcy issues and contractor workouts. Brian regularly collaborates with his surety clients on projects and claims both on a national and international basis. In addition, Brian is regarded as a thought leader who frequently authors and presents on topics that are both timely and relevant to the surety industry.

“I am honored to be serving alongside Adam and Jon in ensuring that our Fidelity & Surety Group continues to provide the outstanding legal service our clients and colleagues have come to expect from us over the last 45 years,” said Brian Kantar. “We are grateful to Armen and stand on his broad shoulders. I am also grateful to CSG Law’s Executive Committee for its continuing leadership – which has taken our firm to incredible new heights – and for its confidence as I take on this new responsibility.”
