New Gender Equity Notice Posting Requirements for Larger New Jersey Employers

As of January 6, 2014, New Jersey employers with 50 or more employees (both within and outside of the state), must post the new Gender Equity Notice conspicuously in the workplace so that it is accessible to all employees in each of the employer’s worksites in New Jersey. The notice may be posted on the employer’s Internet or intranet site for exclusive use by employees, provided that all employees have access to the applicable site.

All current employees (hired on or before the effective date) must be provided with a written copy of the notice by February 6, 2014, and again every year on or before December 31. In addition, all new employees must be provided the Gender Equity Notice upon hire. The notice must be accompanied by an acknowledgment that the employee has received it and has read and understands its terms. Employees are required to sign this acknowledgment (either manually or electronically) and return it to the employer within 30 days of receipt.

An electronic copy of the notice may be obtained online. Alternatively, hard copies of the Gender Equity Notice will also be available to employers who request the employer poster packet from the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
