Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi PC (“CSG”) congratulates Jenny Chung on her appointment as the President of the Asian Pacific American Lawyers Association of New Jersey (“APALA-NJ”). She was virtually sworn into the role on May 28, 2020 by The Honorable Zahid N. Quraishi, United States Magistrate Judge for the District of New Jersey, alongside her fellow incoming Officers and Board Members.
“As incoming President, I look forward to continuing the wonderful work of my predecessors by leading APALA’s efforts in support of the local Asian Pacific American legal and non-legal communities,” said Chung of the new role. “In particular, I plan to focus our efforts to promote diversity in both our state and federal courts."
APALA-NJ is the largest specialty bar association collectively representing the interests of Asian Pacific American lawyers in the State of New Jersey. Chung is a long-standing and active member of APALA-NJ, having served as the organization’s President-Elect during the 2019-2020 term. She also previously served as the Vice President of Communications, a Director, and a member of the Judicial & Prosecutorial Appointments Committee, a role she continues to hold today.
“We are incredibly proud of Jenny as she assumes this role at such a critical time in the trajectory of the equality and social justice movements, and with the rise of anti-Asian-American bias in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic,” noted Shirley U. Emehelu, a Member with CSG’s White Collar Criminal Defense & Government Investigations Group and Chair of the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee. “Her leadership and advocacy will propel APALA-NJ’s mission and greatly benefit the State’s legal community, as well as the communities we serve.”
“I have long known Jenny as a compassionate, tenacious advocate for her clients’ interests and an impressive litigator and colleague,” added Jeffrey S. Chiesa, CSG Executive Committee Member and a Member with the firm’s White Collar Criminal Defense & Government Investigations Group. “These qualities undoubtedly position her as a stellar asset for APALA as they make strides in moving our profession forward.”
A Brooklyn Law School graduate, Chung is an associate with CSG’s Litigation, White Collar Criminal Defense & Government Investigations and Product Liability & Toxic Tort Groups – focusing her practice on criminal, civil and general tort litigation. She also serves as a member of the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee.
Chung began her legal career as a law clerk to The Honorable Michael A. Hammer, United States Magistrate Judge for the District of New Jersey.
