CSG's Shirley U. Emehelu and Jenny Chung Featured Among New Jersey's Most Influential DEI Leaders by ROI-NJ
Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi PC (“CSG”) congratulates Shirley U. Emehelu and Jenny Chung for being named among ROI-NJ’s 2021 Most Influential DEI Leaders, a recognition of the top voices in corporate diversity, equity and inclusion programs across the State.
Since taking on the role as Chair of CSG’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee, Shirley has furthered the firm’s commitment to the recruitment, development and retention of minority attorneys and professional staff. She leads the charge on the firm’s powerful internal D&I communications program – which has helped keep CSG’s nearly 300 employees unified around the key values of diversity, equity and inclusion over the course of the remote work experience and which broadcast the rallying cry that saw the firm make an impact on the surrounding community with fundraisers totaling over $34,000 in support of the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice and the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.
In her legal practice, Shirley draws from her background as the former Chief of Asset Recovery and Anti-Money Laundering for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey in her capacity as Co-Chair of the firm’s Banking & Finance practice and as a member of its Government & Corporate Investigations Group, one of the largest collectives of former federal prosecutors in the State.
Jenny, an associate with the firm’s Litigation and Government & Corporate Investigations Group, recently completed her tenure as President of the Asian Pacific American Lawyers Association of New Jersey, the State’s only Pan-Asian bar association, where her role took on new meaning in light of the rise of Anti-Asian hate incidents taking place across the State and nation. In response to this scourge, she led APALA-NJ in assembling and moderating a powerhouse roundtable, “Anti-AAPI Violence: Federal, State, and Local Leaders Call to Action,” comprised of the State’s leading lawmakers and legal influencers – which included Senator Cory Booker, Congressman Andy Kim, Attorney General Gurbir Grewal and Counsel to the Governor Parimal Garg – addressing the surge of violence against the Asian/Pacific American community and policies addressing the same, as well as offering a closer look at ongoing initiatives being implemented at the local, state, and federal levels.
Jenny has developed into a mainstay in diversity programs in New Jersey and New York – speaking before Seton Hall University, the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association and, her alma mater, Brooklyn Law School. Notably, Jenny is also a leading voice in moving policy forward within the firm as an integral member of CSG’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee.
