CSG Welcomes Fortune 50 Pharma Vet, Former Federal Prosecutor Erik Sandstedt to Litigation Group

January 22, 2019

Erik Sandstedt has joined Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi PC (“CSG”) as a member in its Litigation Group. Sandstedt, who will primarily practice in New Jersey and New York, will be based in the firm’s West Orange, NJ office.

Sandstedt joins the firm from McKesson Corporation, currently ranked sixth on the Fortune 500, where he oversaw the regulatory compliance function and helped guide the Company’s efforts with respect to government enforcement actions, qui tam and other high-profile litigation, merger and acquisition due diligence, and enterprise risk management. Prior to that, he held senior positions with Pfizer, including serving as the head of global investigations, and with the Department of Justice (“DOJ”), where he served as the Chief of the Securities & Health Care Fraud Unit of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey and the Deputy Chief of Staff of the DOJ’s Criminal Division in Washington, D.C. He also spent nearly a decade in private practice where he was involved in some of the most significant litigations in history – including In re WorldCom, Inc. Securities Litigation, which settled for more than $6 billion and culminated in a six-week jury trial in the Southern District of New York.

Leveraging his unique background as a senior federal prosecutor, an in-house legal and compliance executive, and a seasoned civil trial lawyer, Sandstedt will provide clients with sound judgment and practical solutions when managing complex litigation, government and internal investigations, and regulatory compliance challenges.

“CSG is home to many of the state’s most formidable litigators and thoughtful legal counselors,” said Sandstedt. “I believe the firm’s unparalleled commitment to delivering outstanding results for clients in a practical and efficient manner provides a perfect platform for my return to private practice. I am also delighted to join several close friends and colleagues from my time with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and look forward to making a meaningful contribution to the continued success of the firm and its clients.”

“I have known Erik both personally and professionally for some time. He is an outstanding attorney who brings a dynamic perspective on the practice of law and legal strategy, given the depth and diversity of his experience,” added CSG Senior Member Jeffrey S. Chiesa.

The addition of Sandstedt continues a positive trend for CSG, with his arrival marking the third former federal prosecutor to join the firm in as many years following the 2017 arrival of Lee Vartan, whose roles in public service culminated in an appointment as New Jersey Executive Assistant Attorney General, and the firm’s welcoming Danielle M. Corcione, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey, in 2018.

“The strategic growth of our Litigation Group remains a priority,” stated CSG Managing Member Daniel A. Schwartz. “We are thrilled to begin 2019 by welcoming yet another exceptionally talented litigator to the CSG family.”

A graduate of the University of North Carolina and Columbia University School of Law, Sandstedt is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey.
