CSG Launches Cannabis Law Group

Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi PC (“CSG”) has announced the formation and launch of its Cannabis Law Group, which will counsel and provide regulatory guidance to those servicing, operating and investing in the medical and recreational cannabis sectors.

CSG’s Cannabis Law Group is led by Lee Vartan and Francis J. Giantomasi, and consists of nine additional attorneys representing the firm’s diverse range of practice areas, including:

  • Tax
  • Corporate & Securities
  • Private Equity
  • Privacy & Data Security
  • Healthcare
  • Employment
  • Intellectual Property
  • Public Finance
  • Regulatory Affairs
  • Environmental Law
  • Litigation
  • Real Estate, Development & Land Use

The latest proposed legislation addressing the legalization of recreational marijuana in New Jersey allows for up to 400 dispensaries, 80 transporters and 25 producer-processors within two years of passage – creating a new, promising sector for investors and entrepreneurs across the state.

“However, they shouldn’t go at it alone,” commented Vartan who, during his tenure with the New Jersey Attorney General’s office, played an integral role in establishing and overseeing the regulatory regime that currently governs New Jersey’s medical marijuana dispensaries. “The sector will undoubtedly be subject to a complex matrix of regulation. Licensees will have to contend with exhaustive background checks, develop compliance plans that will pass muster with regulators, lawfully navigate banking and funding, and avoid scrutiny at the federal level. Retaining appropriate counsel, legal and otherwise, will be vital to new entrants’ viability in this market.”

“CSG’s Cannabis Law Group was conceived and designed to serve as a ‘one-stop shop’ to those servicing the sector, including third-party vendors, producers and retailers,” added Giantomasi. “Our attorneys draw from the collective knowledge and collaborative insight of the firm’s practice groups, providing a 360° view of potential operational risk, opportunity and critical regulatory compliance matters.”
