John Soltesz represents clients in a wide range of environmental matters, including those related to cost-recovery actions in state and federal court, regulatory compliance, and complex transactional and development issues.
His litigation experience spans the representation of both public and private corporations in cost recovery actions brought pursuant to the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and the New Jersey Spill Compensation and Control Act (Spill Act), and matters seeking compensation for Natural Resource Damages.
With respect to regulatory compliance, John regularly assists individuals and corporations on matters relating to ongoing site remediation, post-remediation monitoring requirements, and oversight of the implementation of corrective measures following alleged violations of various state and federal environmental statutes and regulations, including the New Jersey Site Remediation Reform Act (SRRA), the Industrial Site Recovery Act (ISRA), the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).
In addition to his litigation and regulatory practice, John assists clients with complex transactional and development issues with a focus on the acquisition and redevelopment of environmentally impacted properties in both New Jersey and New York. Specifically, John advises clients on issues relating to potential future liability, ongoing maintenance and monitoring of institutional and engineering controls, and the purchasing of Pollution Legal Liability insurance policies.
John also has experience assisting individuals and redevelopers in obtaining land use approvals for the construction of warehousing and distribution facilities, retail and office buildings, and residential developments throughout New Jersey.
Prior to joining the firm, John was an associate at LeClairRyan.
John earned his J.D. from Seton Hall Law School. He served as a law clerk in the Middlesex County Superior Court, Law Division, under the Hon. Vincent LeBlon, J.S.C. and the Hon. Ana C. Viscomi, J.S.C. In addition, John is the Chairperson of the Edison Township Environmental Commission.
