Wolff & Samson Hosts High School Students for Week-Long Summer Internship Program
August 29, 2014
WEST ORANGE, NJ – Wolff & Samson PC recently hosted five high school students for a week-long summer internship program. The summer program is part of the New Jersey Law and Education Empowerment Project (NJ LEEP) which empowers youth from underserved neighborhoods by helping students develop the tools and skills necessary for success in school and beyond.
Students in this summer’s program at Wolff & Samson included participants from South Orange, Orange and Newark who attend Columbia High School (Maplewood), Science Park High School (Newark) and Technology High School (Newark).
During the week-long program, students attend education sessions at the firm’s office, receive mentoring from attorneys and paralegals, learn valuable skills in research and writing and participate in activities like developing legal memos, debates and mock professional networking sessions.
This is the second consecutive year that Wolff & Samson has participated in the summer internship program with NJ LEEP. The program at Wolff & Samson was spearheaded by Ross Pearlson, who has served on NJ LEEP’s Advisory Board for 10 years.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with NJ LEEP and host the summer internship program, which offers students the unique opportunity to experience what it’s like to work at a law firm and gain skills that will be useful to them in school and once they enter the workforce,” said Ross Pearlson, Member, Wolff & Samson. “This experience is incredibly gratifying for our staff as we see the students grow over the course of the program and over time.”
NJ LEEP, which won the 2014 New York Life Excellence in Summer Learning Award from the National Summer Learning Association (NSLA), empowers youth from underserved neighborhoods to greater educational achievement through a three-fold focus on skills, habits, and exposure by combining law-related education programming with college access programming.
